66 - THE TEXAS BOY WHO BECAME AN AMERICAN GIANT | Audie Murphy (U.S. Army & Actor) | WWII
Private Audie Murphy, just over five feet tall and 17-years-old, would become the most decorated American soldier of World War II.
But his war record of unbelievable courage and fighting skill did not begin with the war. It began with family hardship and personal tragedy.
His courage came from a deeply personal place. He simply refused to abandon those who depended on him.
His list of battlefield heroics reads like a movie…or a myth.
By war’s end, now First Lieutenant Audie Murphy had earned every single U.S. combat award for valor. Several of them multiple times. He was wounded more than three times.
At war’s end, now a hardened veteran, he was just twenty years old…not old enough to vote or drink!
But America hailed him a hero. His photo filled the newspapers. And, of course, Hollywood came calling.
But though it was officially over, the war did not so easily end within his heart and soul…
