I’m Rick Robison. Husband, father, grandfather, Veterans Hospital Volunteer, historian, and former intel officer. But most of all concerned patriot seeing our once exceptional nation being “fundamentally transformed” from within.

For “Not to know what occurred before you were born is to remain always a child. For what is the worth of a human being unless it be woven into the life, the mosaic, of our ancestors” (Marcus Tullius Cicero).
To leap with both feet into such a vital adventure requires that we gather, but more so, harness, the stories of our illustrious heroes and heroines. To do that successfully we must place them within a comprehendible historical setting. This takes work, my friends.
This is the “why” of the FORGOTTEN PATRIOTS Podcast Series. Its purpose and mission. With a passion we’ve done the heavy lifting. Transporting you back in time to experience what it was like standing shoulder-to-shoulder with history’s noble and great ones, as they rose to save our world…yet, too often sacrificing life and limb. Twenty-five years ago, on September 11, 2001, something happened to America that I hope we never forget.
Firefighters and police ran into danger trying to save lives.
Flight attendants and passengers fought terrorists with nothing but their bare hands.
Americans lined up to give blood.
And for a little while, the arguments stopped and an incredible miracle occurred: American flags came out everywhere. By 9/12 American flags were sold out all over the country.
We, as neighbors, as Americans, stood united against a common foe.
Twenty-five years later—because history is nothing if not our best early warning system—that is the message I believe we most need today.
Twenty-five years ago, terrorists tried to get us at each other’s throats. Today I am convinced that unless we change our thinking, we will, in fact, do the damage ourselves those 9/11 murderers wanted done to us.
I pray we never forget the sacrifices, but more so the lessons, of September 11, 2001.

Thomas Jefferson was tasked with the treasonous task of authoring the Declaration of Independence, separating the Americans forever from King George III of England.
Without hesitation, Jefferson opened his portable desk and began work.
He wrote: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with…Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
These were rights that no man, or king, could take from them.
Wisdom and observation taught Jefferson that those rights came from God, they were inherited, they were innate in the human spirit.
And governments existed solely to protect those rights, nothing more.
That government received its legitimate authority from “the consent of the governed.” That idea struck directly at the ancient belief of the divine right of kings, that kings ruled because God had made them kings and that “commoners never had the right to challenge a king.”
Thomas Jefferson and our Founders shattered such false traditions. And the world would never be the same again.

The ancient stone walls of the Alamo trembled beneath another thunderous cannon blast.
Mexican soldiers surged forward in wave after wave, their battle cries echoing through the cold dawn air of March 6th, 1836.
The defenders, fewer than two hundred Americans, had held out against overwhelming odds for thirteen days hoping for reinforcements.
Near one section of the crumbling wall stood a tall, broad-shouldered frontiersman wearing a worn buckskin hunting shirt. His long rifle he named “Old Betsy” flashed again and again.
When powder ran out, he seized Old Betsy by the barrel and swung it like a club against Mexican soldiers pouring through the breach.
David “Davy” Crockett had fought bears, hostile natives, and fierce political battles in Washington his entire life. Now, surrounded by 2,000 heavy assault troops, he fought for something far more important.
Liberty itself.
And to the end, he never gave in or gave up. In fact, the great American name, Davy Crockett, is synonymous with the story of America.

When America entered World War II following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Doss wanted to serve.
But he did not want to kill another human being.
He was willing to risk his life for his country and for the men of his Army company. But he simply refused to take another life while doing so.
Many fellow soldiers did not understand. Some accused him of not being a “real man,” of being a coward.
Yet he also refused to hate the men who tormented him. Instead, he trained and trained hard. He mastered the skills of a medic.
Eventually, the men around him would discover that the soldier they considered a coward possessed truly remarkable courage and skill.
We can each learn from his unselfish prayer, offered not for himself, but for others: “Lord, please help me save just one more...”

The sky above London glowed bright crimson. It was not the red of a setting sun but the terrible glow of a city on fire and under siege.
German bombers droned through the darkness, dropping tons of incendiary bombs upon homes, churches, and factories. Fire engines raced through shattered neighborhoods while exhausted rescue workers clawed through broken buildings with bleeding hands, searching for survivors. Every explosion shook the foundations of one of the world’s leading cities.
Across the continent, Adolf Hitler's armies had conquered nation after nation with breathtaking speed. Nearly every military expert believed Britain would soon find itself under full scale Nazi invasion.

One autumn evening just prior to the Civil War, the escaped slave Frederick Douglass stepped onto the platform of an abolitionist street meeting knowing he could get beat up, maybe even lynched for his efforts. Pro-slavery supporters shouted obscenities with each word he spoke.
Looking into the faces of those who hated the cause of liberty for all, courageously Frederick Douglass declared slavery a deep moral evil that was rotting America from within.
Frederick Douglass was self-taught. He traded bread to poor white boys in exchange for reading lessons and old books. He kept old newspapers and squirreled them away to read when alone.
He listened to inspiring speeches and memorized them. He secretly borrowed his master’s Bible, reading it long into the night. Every new word he mastered strengthened his mind.
His tireless abolitionist campaigning changed the course of history helping support the war effort, the War Between the States that would free those in bondage...

As casualty reports from Gettysburg poured in, President Abraham Lincoln wrestled with one haunting question:
How could he tell thousands of grieving families their loved ones had not died in vain?
More than 51,000 American casualties in the bloodiest battle in the nation’s history.
Preparing for his Gettysburg cemetery dedication speech, Lincoln turned to the Declaration of Independence, recognizing that the Civil War was testing whether a nation founded on God-given rights could survive.
At Gettysburg, he reminded Americans that the fallen had already consecrated the battlefield through their sacrifice. The responsibility now belonged to the living.
His warning still echoes today: freedom is never inherited automatically. Freedom is entrusted to ordinary men and women who must decide, in every generation, whether they will prove worthy of those who came before them.
That was America’s unfinished work at Gettysburg. It remains America’s unfinished work today.

No one wanted the assignment. To bring in two desperate killers with a nasty habit of ambushing lawmen.
US Deputy Marshal Bass Reeves was assigned the task. Packing light, he headed into Indian Territory alone, as he typically operated, in disguise as a poor, weary vagabond.
When reaching the outlaws' hideout—found by his exceptional tracking skills learned from years living with local Indian tribes—the outlaws suspected nothing. The criminals laughed and boasted of their murders of lawmen and countless robberies.
Then they found themselves staring down the barrel of a shotgun.
Marshal Reeves stated matter-of-factly that they could go to jail upright walking as men, or draped across their horses like dead animals, it didn’t much matter to him. So, he marched the handcuffed and hobbled prisoners off to Fort Smith, Arkansas for trial.
Today, historians recognize Bass Reeves as one of the greatest lawmen in American history. His many exploits inspired popular fictional Western heroes like the Lone Ranger and others.
