17 - GODLY MAN... OR MONSTER? | Christopher Columbus (Italian Explorer) | 1400s

Over the past half-millennium, the name of Christopher Columbus has run the gambit from hero to genocidal monster.

By his own admission, Columbus “was not an educated man.” Yet he spoke at least four languages and could write skillfully in two.

He was a devout Christian who never uttered a profanity, yet spent his life around sailors, some of the most profane men on earth.

Today our children are taught to blame Columbus for much of the evil in our world. This is unjust.

Certainly, Columbus was anything but perfect. Still, most (or all) of the atrocities attributed to him are not entirely accurate, or understood.

In this Podcast Episode we take an in-depth look at Columbus and how he viewed his mission. We cite perhaps the finest contemporary historian, Bartolome de las Casas, offering firsthand insights into Columbus, the man, which have been generally discarded by academia today.

“History (as the great historian tells us) must be judged STRENUOUSLY and within historical context.” In this episode we attempt to do just that.
