That critical summer of 1787 the delegates to the Constitutional Convention were on the path to failing miserably.
For a month the delegates had argued over a forgettable list of ego-driven proposals, accomplishing nothing.
Benjamin Franklin spoke addressing the head of the Congress:
“I have lived, sir, a long time, and the longer I live the more convincing proofs I see of this truth, that God governs in the affairs of men. …If a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable an empire can rise without His aid?
"We seem to be growing further apart as passions rise. There is too much at stake. I therefore beg leave to move that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of heaven…be held in this assembly every morning before we proceed to business...”
God answered that humble acknowledgement of the power of prayer. The Constitution of the United States was born.

The Battle of Yorktown raged.
A battle that would decide if the new, young United States of America would survive.
Our hero that day, (October 10, 1781), would lead a desperate assault on the British forward position known as Redoubt #10. In bloody hand-to-hand combat, he and his devoted men turned the tide of battle and won one of the greatest victories in American history.
His name was Alexander Hamilton. And odds were that he should have died alone and in despair on the disease-infested island where he was born.
But Alexander showed us that no matter how hopeless our circumstances appear, our future is in our hands. This was the legacy he wanted most to leave behind: That it’s up to each of us to determine what our future will bring.
That’s the miracle, and the Great American Dream of Alexander Hamilton.

*MY 3 FAVORITE MOVIES FOR SEEKERS AFTER TRUTH*
THE GREAT ESCAPE (1963): What impresses me most about The Great Escape are the many examples of resilience and loyalty shown by these desperate men. The Great Escape is the opportunity for modern, pampered, well-fed American audiences, people like myself, to see what The Greatest Generation accomplished under hopeless conditions. In my mind, you will not find a better true story about fortitude, self-sacrifice, and valor than The Great Escape.
LINCOLN (2012): This is the true story of how an exhausted and disrespected Lincoln musters the will to fight on and pass the 13th Amendment abolishing slavery, showing his ability to accomplish what most thought impossible. Incredibly you feel yourself standing alongside this divinely inspired American hero President Lincoln. It’s a must-see.
FORREST GUMP (1994): The story of Forrest Gump, to me, is the quintessential story of faith, sacrifice, and courage under fire. It’s the story of unconditional love. It teaches about forgiveness and the power of goodness. It demonstrates masculine character too often ignored or denigrated today. Most of all it shows, if you pay attention, the very real difference between intelligence and wisdom—which are NOT the same thing, not even close.

President Abraham Lincoln, when meeting Harriet Beecher Stowe for the first time was reported to have said to her, with a twinkle in his eyes: “So you’re the little lady who started this great war.”
And she did, writing the first million-plus selling American novel—UNCLE TOM'S CABIN—about a kind and Christ-like slave named “Tom,” the novel showing graphically the brutalities of slavery during the harsh days of the Fugitive Slave Act, the years running up the American Civil War, a period that nearly saw the destruction of our country.
Our hero, Harriet Beecher Stowe and her novel had a powerful influence upon the conscience of America. The novel’s historical impact grabbed a sleeping nation and shook it awake, helping start a war that would not only unite America and make it stronger, but more so, end the institution of slavery once and for all.

Too often today the Alamo is depicted as a bunch of American white-supremacists who oppressed the local population, hoping to “steal Mexican lands.”
This is tiring, simplistic, and woefully unfair. History rewritten.
Settlers in Texas were promised freedom and independence by the Mexican Government. In the spring of 1836, those who fortified the Alamo against the dictator General Santa Anna were patriots, many born and raised in Texas, native sons. And they understood they might not survive yet willingly stayed and fought to the death.
The Alamo proves the point. Americans will die on their feet rather than live on their knees.
May we remember the Alamo for what it truly stood for—and stands for today. These were free men and women. Never shackled. Fighting to survive just one more day, struggling to subdue a harsh world and burying their children along the way.
Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness means everything to Texans as it does to all traditional Americans. It’s God-given. And it’s to die for.

On the Pennsylvanian shore of the Delaware River, Washington conceived a desperate plan—to cross back over the river into New Jersey and attack a Hessian garrison of 1,200 men. The Hessians were German mercenaries fighting for the British.
Throughout that frigid night, Glover and his Marbleheaders rowed Washington’s Army across the ice-choked river, thought to be an impossible feat and attacked the Hessian Garrison, killing 100 and taking 900 Hessian soldiers as prisoners.
When the battle ended, General Washington turned to the doctor for his men, General Hugh Mercer, saying: “Hugh, we won a great victory today, but tell me…how many of my boys did I lose? How much did it cost?”
Dr. Mercer looked at his tired, aging commander, saying: “Sir, we didn’t lose any, only a few wounded.”
Washington dropped down on a nearby stool, saying softly: “Oh Lord, my God, another miracle for my little army.”
And there we have Miracle Number 3.

John Glover and his Marblehead Mariners, with seemingly impossible stealth, evacuated Washington’s entire army, all 9,000 men, across the East River onto Manhattan Island in nine hours during a single night!
How that happened became known as the Miracle of the Fog, for just as the British were preparing to attack, the river and shoreline were blanketed in a thick fog that “came out of nowhere” so that “men could not see ten feet ahead.”
By dawn, and then into midmorning, the mysterious fogbank suddenly disappeared, but not until every American and their weapons and equipment, were safely evacuated.
The British commander, General Howe, was at first disbelieving, then he seethed with frustration. He’d had Washington in his grasp, and just like that, he’d slipped away.
But to General Washington, he knew who to thank. For God had given him all they needed, the perfect cover Colonel Glover’s Marblehead Mariners would exploit the fullest.

But it would never have happened without one often ignored event which I see as nothing short of divine intervention. For just as the British were preparing to attack, the river and shores were quickly blanketed in a thick fog that “men could not see ten feet ahead.”
At least two more miracles would follow that dark and deadly year of 1776. And in the midst of the fray was found Colonel John Glover, a blunt and plainspoken American who few people liked, but everyone respected.
Thank you, John Glover, for your sacrifice and determination to never place personal gain ahead of the creation and preservation of the most important Republic in history.
Your Legacy will live as long as there are voices free to tell your story and to proclaim your divinely guided victories.

Most Americans do not know that Abraham Lincoln, when elected president, went from “apostate to prophet” all in those critical four years of the Civil War.
And helping along his miraculous conversion was a humble, yet highly capable, Army nurse by the name of Rebecca Pomroy.
What she was able to accomplish with the Lincoln Family in the White House that dreadful winter of 1862 changed the course of history.
This is the often-ignored story of the genuine miracle a long-suffering Christian woman offered to Abraham and Mary Lincoln, a miracle “cure” for not only their son Tad, but also Mary and the President himself.
In the process she helped save the American Republic and emancipate America’s slaves, accomplishing what the pundits of the time thought could never be done!

We have reached a milestone in America’s beloved past. The 249th and 250th year anniversary of this grand experiment in republicanism, in self-government, but mostly in individual freedom.
But, ironically, as of late, we are facing the gravest challenge we have ever faced. And the danger, tragically, is coming from within.
Now is the time to look beyond the propaganda and embrace the true history of American greatness, a nation where our Founders “offered their lives, their fortunes, their sacred honor” in the cause of liberty.
This was a gathering of men and women unlike any in history. I thank the Lord every day that such men and women were willing to step forward at great personal risk.
And as we celebrate 250 years from these sacred events, I hope and pray that we as a nation will be worthy of, and grateful for, their Divinely inspired sacrifice in our behalf.
