She made 19 highly risky trips back into the South to save hundreds...

HARRIET TUBMAN is a well-known American hero who risked her life to help escaping slaves.
What is not known about her was what drove her fervently, a passion that is today often suppressed by historians, increasingly removing her powerful testimony of Jesus, and of miracles, from the historical record.

The young woman, Ella, watched as her father and brothers were beheaded before her eyes.

I was four years old.
Fascinated, I stood on the banks of a storm-swollen, raging river. The next thing I remember I was tumbling beneath the rapids, being washed into the depths.
But as I turned over under the frigid torrent I could see up through the water the face of a Bonafide angel. His arms were reaching for me, stretching until he snagged my coat. He then pulled me up from the cold and set me on dry ground.
I remember looking up at him, he seemed so big, but I later learned he was just a kid, only sixteen years old. Though, to me that day, he was an angel in disguise, rescuing me from a watery grave.
Since then, I have had several truly unique encounters with true angelic heroes sent, somehow, from a Divine realm and for a purpose. And what that mission is we will discuss in this week’s podcast…

This is a story few Americans have ever heard.
We consider this a travesty, for it is America’s history, a story of adventure, tragedy, unbelievable professional skill, and undying dedication to a cause.
The story of how America’s crack engineers and divers not only rescued many of the American sailors trapped within the navy ships sunk during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, but also how nearly every one of the 18 sunk and bomb-damaged warships were repaired, floated, then recommissioned and upgraded to get back in the fight.
In fact, many of these same warships, once resurrected and modernized, were sent back in the fight against the Japanese Navy, culminating in the major naval battle of Leyte Gulf on October 22, 1944.
On that day, the passionately undeterred US Navy attacked and sent to the bottom of the Pacific Ocean what remained of the Japanese Navy. The Pearl Harbor disaster, for most Americans, required a reckoning.
These skilled naval engineers and divers, at great risk to their own lives, determined that those same ships Japan had brutally destroyed would return and lead the way in the ultimate defeat of the Japanese Empire. And that’s exactly what happened!

Look no further than Lt. Lyle Bouck, one of the YOUNGEST leaders during WWII...
Waking before dawn, in the snow and bone-chilling temperatures of 16 December 1944, 20-year-old Lt. Lyle Bouck could hear the distinctive rumble of German armor—Tiger Tanks!—rolling directly towards them.
But just when Bouck’s platoon was about to open up with their weapons on the SS Troopers below, a teenage girl suddenly burst from a lone house, running up to the German commander and pointing in the direction of the hidden Americans.
Still, Lt. Bouck told his men to hold their fire. They did not want to hurt the girl, so they let her race back to the safety of her home.
By then, however, the Germans were diving for cover. Suddenly it sounded like the world exploding! The most desperate battle of the war, “The Battle of the Bulge,” was on.
The tip of the spear, Lt. Bouck’s platoon, found themselves filling one of the vital roles determining the outcome of that most crucial battle to end the war.

Nancy was a tall, lanky, powerful woman, standing nearly 6 feet and perfectly bred for backwoods life. She had long, thick hair and a fearless, determined spirit. Friends said she was an excellent shot with a rifle and could handle a man’s full day of heavy labor with nary a complaint. She was also a skilled herbalist and backwoods doctor and a devout Christian. She always helped her neighbors and defended them when necessary.
Born Nancy Morgan in the 1740s in North Carolina. When about 25 years old she moved to Georgia marrying Benjamin Hart. They had six sons and two daughters. A well-known, respected, and scrappy family of Georgians. Many places in Georgia today preserve the family name “Hart.”
It wasn’t long before young Nancy received the nickname “War Woman,” given to her by a local Cherokee chief who had once gotten on her bad side. But mostly, she was an early and passionate patriot for the American cause of independence from Great Britain. This Podcast Episode documents one of her better-known stories proving her American Patriot credentials as a woman not be trifled with…!

Pauline saw her nation being destroyed from within, torn apart by Southern Rebels. And though at first, she refused to get involved.
But when the call came to stand and fight, she did, in the only way she knew how, as a special spy for Abraham Lincoln, no less, a mission she executed with great skill, helping to save her beloved United States.
In the end, however, she died sick and all alone far from home, tragically hoping that someone might come to offer comfort.
Today, while few Americans have ever heard of her, we at the HEROES FOR FREEDOM remember Pauline Cushman and honor her. Union Spy, yes! And a darned good one.
But more so, a patriotic Hero who gave all she had. An amazing American woman we hope is never forgotten.

We often learn more from our heroes’ failures than their successes…
The old man, head bent forward in hopelessness, rode silently in the public carriage. He flexed his right fist, looking at the hand that God had given him to raise to the square, as God had called him to Christ’s Ministry years before when he was a rebellious young man.
Inside and seated across from him was a beautiful young woman, a stranger. For some reason she began to hum, then sing, the iconic words to a hymn that she later said had always inspired her. The hymn was titled: "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing."
The young woman sang with pure intent. Then, sat still a moment, but wanting to pass the time, asked if the old man had liked her singing? He responded after a long, uncomfortable silence, his eyes filling with tears:
“Madam, I am the poor unhappy man who wrote that hymn many years ago, and I would give a thousand worlds if I could once more enjoy the feelings I had back then.”
The carriage rode on in silence as the sunset faded from view.
One of the great Christian ministers and the author of a longtime beloved hymn died alone and in obscurity, convinced that God had abandoned him. In truth—which he knew—he had abandoned God. How and why that happened is one of history’s truly untold stories of personal peace and inspiration.

James knew. This time it was up to him.
Piloting his supercharged P-51 Mustang fighter, reaching speeds up to 440 mph, his eyes narrowed on the mass of incoming German Luftwaffe warplanes—more than 30 strong!—all with orders to shoot down the slow, lumbering, American B-17s, those that James must protect—at all cost.
These B-17 crews of young American airmen, grit their teeth, seeing the swarms of enemy and doubting they would make it home alive that day. But, instead, they would have a front row seat for one of the most incredible dog fighting exhibitions in history. Personally, even reverently, some believed what happened in the sky that day was a miracle, their own “Angel On Their Shoulders” moment, guided by a loving God who had not forgotten them.
And in this case, Heaven could not have picked a better angel, though a destroying angel to be sure!

Christianity was about to be conquered and extinguished by a massive enemy army.
September 11th in 1683, the City of Vienna—the Gateway to Western Europe—was about to be overrun and wiped out. The survival of Christian Europe in the balance.
Then, appearing on the mountain above Vienna, the Winged Hussar Christian Knights, under the command of King John Sobieski. 18,000 Christian Knights rode down the mountain smashing into the flank of this huge Turkish Army (180,000 strong!), crushing them and driving this invading army back into Turkish Lands.
Islam’s armies would not invade Europe again. Christian Europe was saved.
The grateful citizens of Vienna welcomed these Christian Knights with hugs and kisses for there, that day, before their eyes, they witnessed one of the most strategically important miracles in history…
